On February 11, 2014, Clarkston voters approved a four-year replacement Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Levy.  The 2014 M&O replacement levy dollars will be used during the 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 school years to support essential programs, staff, and operating expenses that are unfunded or under-funded by state and federal revenue.

2014 M&O Levy Facts:

  • Clarkston voters approved a Maintenance and Operations (M&O) levy in February 2010. This levy expired in December 2014.
  • On February 11, 2014, Clarkston voters approved a four-year replacement M&O Levy.
    • The previous levy rate (what tax payers were used to) was $3.78.
    • The proposed levy rate (which tax payers approved in February 2014) is $3.96.
  • The 2014 M&O Levy will be used during 2015-2018 to support essential programs, staff, and operating expenses that are unfunded or under-funded by state and federal revenue. (See “What does the levy fund?” and “How Levy Dollars Benefit Clarkston Kids” for a list of all the programs and areas that levies support.)
  • The levy supports essential programs and maintenance in the District that is inadequately funded by the State.
  • Money from the levy will account for about 22.2% of the district’s General Fund budget.
  • If voters had not approved the Levy, Clarkston School District would have lost Local Effort Assistance (LEA) money from the state, resulting in $5.8 million in cuts to the district’s 2014-2015 budget.
  • The levy request is $4,838,492 for each collection year from 2015 – 2018.
  • The levy rate is estimated to range from $3.96 to $3.73 per $1,000 of assessed property value over the four year levy. (Based on an estimated 2% assessed valuation growth over 4 years.)
