Updates in School Nutrition

Our Elementary School and Middle School menus are now on Facebook!  http://www.facebook.com/ClarkstonSD
The NSLP (National School Lunch Program) and NSBP (National School Breakfast Program) have seen many changes over the few years.  The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 put in place a huge amount of new requirements for schools to implement.  The Clarkston School District Food Service Department has been trying to create a balance between having healthier options and having foods our students will still eat over the last 10 years.  We continue to have favorite meals, as stated by our students, we just try to make sure it is a healthier version than what can be found commercially.  Our goal also is to have salad bars in each school.  We have some barriers that we are working on in some of our schools but have successfully added salad bars to half of our schools.  Here is a picture of the salad bar at Lincoln Middle School in November of 2014:

We have a wide variety of seasonal fresh fruit and vegetable items on our menu.
Here is an example of how the menu is presented to our students.  The items are listed by food category.
If you are interested in finding out what changes/rules have been implemented over the last few years, please give our office a call or see these below listed websites for more information:
As always, the best way to answer questions about what the students at Clarkston Schools are eating is to come check us out and have lunch with us.  Please call your school secretary in the a.m. if you plan on having lunch with us so we can make sure we make enough food.
